Carnival Cruise & Canada

After the wedding, my grand aunt graciously treated a fair amount of guests to a five-day cruise onboard the Carnival Victory. We departed from New York and visited Saint John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada.

I rented a Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 fisheye for the trip. I believe that is the only lens that gives you a full 180° fisheye on a non-full frame camera. It’s such a fun lens!

After a fun-filled dizzying vacation, I’ve made the following conclusions:
-South African accents are cool
-I’m not a fan of Canadian weather
-I’ve never seen so many people with Canon Rebel XT/XTi’s in one place before
-I ate incredibly well
-I cannot live a week without Internet
-The fate of mankind falls on the preservation of honeybees! (They were showing Bee Movie)

This was actually the only sunny day we had out at sea. It was very foggy most of the time.

Fun with the fisheye! Our room and balcony.

More fun with the fisheye. The mini golf course, and my sister during dinner.

My cousin losing to me at a game of super-sized chess.

Another Eric! He’s the guy that took the picture in the About section of my website (also my current Facebook picture).

Karaoke night. Lets see if I can get this correct. This is my mom’s-mom’s-sister’s-husband’s-niece’s-husband. Does that even make us related?

Doesn’t that look scrumptious?

Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada – It was nothing but fog.

Saint John, NB – Canadian graffiti reminding you to look both ways before crossing the street.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada – All these tombstones are for the recovered victims of the Titanic tragedy. What does Halifax have to do with the Titanic tragedy?

Halifax, NS – Could this be THE Jack Dawson? (Nope. Just a coincidence. Jack Dawson was an entirely fictitious character. (So who is this J. Dawson then?)).

Halifax, NS – Peggy’s Cove. An absolutely beautiful place. The place looks like a painting.

Halifax, NS – Peggy’s Cove.

Halifax, NS – Peggy’s Cove. It looked like a toy village (See the mini dollhouses in the background?)

Saint John, NB – More fun with the fisheye. Some church.

Saint John, NB – Another fisheye of a church. I actually tried HDR on this but it didn’t turn out so well – the windows are still blown out.

Saint John, NB – (left to right) Sister, grandma, first-cousin-onced-removed/”auntie”, cousin.

About 90% of our group.

kathy - hey i was winning then
notice how you dont have your queen….hmm i wonder who killed it

Lilian Hsu - Except the last picture (group on stairs), all others are very professional. Great pictures and legends.

“Uncle” Jerry’s wedding

Technically, he’s my first cousin once removed, but in Chinese culture we refer to all relatives as uncles and aunties.

This weekend I attended the wedding of my uncle Jerry and his wife Yen. Naturally, I had my camera and took a fair amount of photos. It was the first wedding I’ve shot as a guest, which was quite exciting. Enjoy :]

The bride and her father.

Jerry and Yen at the altar. The scene was terribly backlit, thus the overexposed background.

My grand aunt saying some words at the altar. She looks so young! (But then, so does most of my family.)

The actual wedding photographer!

A fraction of the wedding party.

Details from the wedding. I liked how they named all their tables!

Gotta have a cake shot.

The delicious food. This is my cousin’s salmon dish. I had rosemary chicken :]

The first dance. I actually like the dramatic effect that the backlight had on this picture!

Jerry had to feed Yen a piece of cake with his mouth.

p.s. lookout for my new website coming soon!!

Joe - What you call terrible backlight, i call brilliant backlight ;) Well shot.
